THE PROGRAMS

Yorkville English Academy offers a variety of English language programs for students planning to study English to achieve their future goals.

►
English as a Second Language Program (ESL) - Book this course
This program concentrates on all language skills required for communicating in English. The program of study includes reading, writing and grammar, speaking, listening and conversation, and five elective classes per week. The elective classes are: current events and debating, slang and idioms, life skills, conversation and communicative activity. The ESL program is available to students as:

    - Part-time (17.5 hours per week)
    - Immersion (25 hours per week)
    - Full-Immersion (35 hours per week)

The full-time English program has four components using the four language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Instruction will include grammar, pronunciation and vocabulary to achieve a balanced proficiency in English. Grammatical structure and vocabulary are introduced at each level to help students improve their oral communication skills in daily conversation.
Our English as a Second Language program is designed to help students planning to study English to achieve their future goals. The ESL program offers six levels and a broad range of elective classes including Business English, TOEIC and TOEFL. Upon arrival, students will be given a written and oral placement test to ensure that they are placed in the appropriate level. YEA's levels of study are as follows:

        Level 1: Beginner
        Level 2: Upper Beginner
        Level 3: Lower Intermediate
        Level 4: Upper Intermediate
        Level 5: Lower Advanced
        Level 6: Upper Advanced

Elective Classes
The elective classes offered at YEA are: current events and debating, slang and idioms, life skills, conversation and communicative activity. Each day features one of the electives above taught with reference to the theme of the month. The communicative activity class on Fridays involves all the students in every class. Some of the activities previously held during this class have been wine and cheese tasting, a visit to the police museum and an afternoon at the movie theatre.

►English Interchange Classes - Book this course
YEA also offers English Interchange Classes for either part-time study or as part of the full immersion program. The programs offered are: Business English, Grammar Plus, Conversation Plus, TOEIC, and TOEFL. These classes are taught Monday to Thursday from 2:30pm to 5:00pm and from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.

Business English
YEA's Business English Program covers business reading, writing, grammar, listening, pronunciation, resume writing, business letter writing and research projects. The program is geared towards students with an Upper Intermediate to Advanced level of English.

Grammar Plus
This program teaches the development of grammar skills for everyday purposes. Emphasis is on the correct use and practice of English through vocabulary

Conversation Plus
This program teaches the development of conversation skills for everyday purposes. Emphasis is on the correct use and practice of English through vocabulary

Private Tutorial Program
One-on-one instruction is available for students who wish extra help. Tutoring is offered Monday through Thursday after school at 2:30pm.

TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication)
YEA's TOEIC program teaches students the skills they need to achieve the highest TOEIC score possible. This program is designed for students with an Upper Intermediate to Advanced level of English. 

TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
This program is designed to prepare students planning to enter the North American university system. Students are fully prepared to write the computer-based TOEFL exam by using up-to-date materials. Students are given trial tests both on paper and on computer prior to their official TOEFL test. This program is designed for students in the Upper Intermediate and Advanced levels.

TESL

TESL Diploma Course for Non-Native Speakers.  By applying to this course, you have made a commitment, not only to yourself and your professional life, but also to YOUR future students.  This course has been designed to give you thorough instruction and practical in-class experience in a relaxed, professional and encouraging environment. 

Winter Youth Program
YEA's Winter Youth program is for students 8-17 years of age.  Enjoy snowboarding, skiing, skating, and the other fun winter activities.  We offer 2, 3, and 4 week programs.  Students have ESL class in the morning and activities in the afternoon.
